Enantioselective GC in essential oil analysis
Enantioselective GC is a valuable and established tool in essential oil analysis. Important areas of application are:
- proof of authenticity
- detection of adulterations
- determination of prevenance
- quality control and pharmacopoeia requirements
Since most constituents of essential oils are chiral and in many cases both enantiomers have a different fragrance or at least another sensory quality, the chiral analysis of flavour and fragrance components is becoming increasingly important.
Even many pharmacopoeia already require or recommend using enantioselective gas chromatography for the chiral analysis of certain essential oil constituents, e.g. linalool and linalyl acetate.
